Cachecol diagonal / Diagonal scarf

Então aqui fica a informação e fotografias:

I don't post here very frequently, and only recently I started posting photos (I still haven't learnt to focus decently with the digital camera. It was free, so it's not so good, but I'm not complaining), but I keep knitting. So, besides the surprise scarf for my mother, which demands some attention to the lace pattern, I have been knitting on an easier scarf, with an interesting variation of the simple garter. Of course I finished first the easier one. I'm going to give it to my brother (so he won't become jealous of my mother ;-) ) and some friends who already saw it loved it :D. So, here is the info and photos:

Pattern: Multidirectional diagonal scarf.
Yarn:
handpaintedyarn merino 6-ply, 2 skeins (almost completely), colour "Alpine Pearl". Very soft, but less blue than in the photos of the site. More of a grey-violet to petrol-blue variegation. It's handpainted, so colour varies a lot, and it's very hard to portray them well in a photo. My photos cannot show the true colours and their variations as well...
Needle size: 6 mm. They suggested 8 mm, and I believe it will work, but I wanted a thicker fabric.

The scarf folded in half: this photo shows better the texture and the colour.

"Portuguese purl"

Nada.

I'm trying to make my Knitters Geek Code. And I must find out if I knit Continental or English. I had no idea, so I checked online, watched videos and photos and tried to find out. Nothing. None of the methods was similar to what I do. So, I asked in a knitters forum and found out: what I do is a regional variation called "Portuguese purl".

To understand what it's all about, see here and here. I use the right hand to keep the yarn tension (I wrap the yarn around the middle finger of my right hand), but it seems some people use the foot.

Branching Out

Or my mother's secret scarf... I hadn't posted about it yet because my photos were not good, but I will post still. Photo 1: The beginning (the yarn colour is less red and lighter, though):

Photo 2: July 16th (note my hand and the blue veins, and note the different colour. It's still not a realistic colour, and the photo is so blurry!)

Pesquisas no Google

Post in Portuguese about some Google searches that led people to my blog. As all searches were in Portuguese, I will not translate them

P.S. My heart is with the Londoners.

Isto:

I have decided what I will knit with the yarn my SP sent me (the orangish cotton/acrylic). This:

madeleinefinished

É uma adaptação (ler aqui) dum padrão disponível aqui.

It's an adapted version (read here) of a free pattern you can find here.

---------------------------

Hi. First I need to apologize to my readers (my few readers :( ) for my silence. I have been too overwhelmed with work.

Meanwhile, the SP5 initiative made me search for beautiful yarns for my SP-r, so I couldn't resist and have bought some wonderful yarns for me too. And I have received the lovely cotton yarn you can see in my last post, so my stash has been growing nice and beautiful. Still, I will not post photos of my recent stash enhancements till I reveal myself to my SP-r (it's not probable she reads my blog, but this is what I will do).

Os presentes vêm sempre juntos / Presents always come in pairs

This has been a good week! On Monday I received a digital camera, and today I received a package from my SP! Here is the photo. (I cannot talk about my SP-r package, it's a secret!)

Obrigada, amiga!

Three skeins of cotton/acrylic yarn. It's soft, the colour is nice, I like it. It's lighter than the photo suggests. When I have more time, I will knit a summer top with it. A note from my SP, and two postcard from Porto, a city I love. And the package was full of SP5 "stamps". Thanks, pal!
